Woodland Activities at New Seaham Academy
116 pupils from New Seaham Academy have been taking part in Woodland Activities over the past year. The sessions have enabled them to explore the woodland just outside their school playground.
Each week the children, equipped with their wellies and warm clothing, meet OASES staff and walk down to the woodland. Once there they form a circle so they can hear the latest woodland tale and find out the fun activities they are going to do that day. They then explore the woodland looking for clues or hidden objects to help them with their activities including; forest faces, shelter building, alphabet scrabble and much more.
At the end of each session they regroup to see what they have all made or done, then start the walk back to school before going home and telling of their adventures that day.
“The children really enjoy the innovative learning they experience with the woodland activities, experiences they would never have the opportunity to enjoy otherwise. It brings another element of enrichment and memorable experiences to our curriculum.” - B. Dolan, Headteacher at New Seaham Academy.
