Recharging the Earth

Sponsored by SANYO and ERDF and supported by Project C (the NETPark community outreach programme) this programme engaged 10 secondary schools and over 60 primary schools in an exciting initiative that used the analogy of battery recharging to ‘Re-Charge the Earth’.

Recharging the Earth was designed to raise awareness of sustainability issues and to encourage young people to consider the impact that their lifestyle choices have on the world in two ways:

  • In the first part of the programme participating schools took part in a competition to collect non-rechargable batteries for recycling, supporting the Government's target to recycle 20% of all batteries by 2016.
  • In the second part of the programme participating secondary school pupils supported children from their partner primary schools to create a reflective piece of work illustrating what the planet will be like in 25 years time if sustainable choices are made and what may happen if they are not.
