Forest Schools at Finchale

Pupils from Finchale Primary School took part in a six week Forest School programme in June and July 2014. Dressed in sturdy shoes and waterproofs the children enjoyed getting dirty and exploring the natural world without restriction.  All of the activities that the children completed were designed to enhance curriculum delivery and build upon the learning and experiences of the previous session. From shelter building to fire lighting the children had an excellent time, increased in confidence, motivation and enthusiasm to learn whilst also developing important social skills, all whilst learning about the natural world.

"My Year 3 class thoroughly enjoyed the forest school programme. They were very excited by the opportunity to learn outside in a different environment and it was an excellent novel way for them to develop co-operation skills and resilience as well as allowing them to explore their local environment. For example many of the children had never visited the woodland before despite it's close proximity to many of their own homes and following the first session a number of the children began to visit the woodland regularly with parents."- Emma Patrick, Teacher from Finchale Primary School.
