Throughout the year OASES work with partner organisations and sponsors to run special events to educate, inspire and engage different audiences with the great outdoors and global sustainability education.

Hamsterley Forest Well-Being Festival

OASES has teamed up with Active Forests and the Durham Yoga Group (BWY) to bring you a wonderful day of relaxation and calm. Come and join us in the tranquil setting of Hamsterley Forest on Sunday 21st July 2019 at 9:30am for yoga, meditation, relaxation and Forest Bathing.

We have a wonderful selection of local yoga teachers from a range of yogic backgrounds, hence the day will be inspired by Hatha, Dru and Iyengar yoga.  OASES will be leading the Forest Bathing.

Event registration will take place at Hamsterley Forest Visitor Centre from 9:30am. You will be able to sign up for your preferred yoga sessions / Forest Bathing experience at this point. The festival will finish at about 17:30. Places on the sessions will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Do not worry though, we have a wonderful selection of local yoga teachers for you to choose from and OASES staff will be running Forest Bathing experiences throughout the day.

Upon registration, each attendee will be supplied with a programme of the available sessions and a map indicating the locations of each. We will be based roughly 20 minutes walk from the Hamsterley Forest Visitor Centre. Hamsterley Forest is a public forest, so we have located the event away from the main thoroughfare. Active Forests will be providing toilets near the yoga sites so that you will not need to return to the centre.

Please wear loose fitting clothing, that is suitable for the prevailing weather conditions, and comfortable shoes. Whilst we hope for sunshine it is not guaranteed.

Whilst we will have yoga mats, belts and blocks available to borrow, it is helpful if attendees bring their own equipment.

We will be in the ideal location for a picnic. Alternatively, Active Forests will be providing a pop-up café near to the locations of the sessions (next to the Oak car park).

There will be a small Wellbeing Market Place, which will stock everything from aromatherapy and yoga gear to mindfulness! The teachers taking the sessions will also be leaving class flyers within the Wellbeing Market Place – so if you enjoyed a particular session you can track them down for more yoga, meditation and relaxation.

To book a place, please download and complete a BOOKING FORM along with a HEALTH QUESTIONNAIRE and email it to or call 03000 260 535.  You will then be sent payment instructions.  A confirmation email will then be sent to you with further information about the event.

The cost of the day is £30/participant if pre-booked; £30 plus parking if paid for on the day; sessional rate £10 plus parking.  Participants must be over 12 years of age.  Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  If the weather is poor a refund will be given or an alternative date will be provided (alternative date: 1st September 2019).
