Champions for Wind

OASES worked with a number of schools through the Champions for Wind initiative in County Durham and Tees Valley. The programme was also working with schools across North Yorkshire and Humberside.

It was a professional enhancement and curriculum development programme run in partnership with Forewind, the developers of the world’s largest offshore wind farm at Dogger Bank. The site is between 77 and 180 miles offshore, please go to www.forewind.co.uk  for the full development information.

The project aimed to cover a variety of curriculum areas and draws upon the experience and expertise of the 'Champions'. Through a series of context-led sessions pupils engage with the subject and strengthen their understanding of the offshore wind industry, associated careers and environmental research being undertaken. A key feature of this project was to provide teachers with the opportunity to develop their professional expertise. The planned interventions in schools focus on innovation and promote outstanding teaching. The network of 'Champions' provides a framework to support innovation through cross-region clusters.
